Course Overview

Course Description: 
This course will prepare instructors to deliver Module I: All Hazard Awareness for Healthcare Personnel and Module II- Healthcare Personal Protective Equipment Operations. This is a two-day training involving a deeper explanation of material from Module I and Module II. Students will deliver mini-lecture “teach-backs” and be evaluated by course instructors. Students will also learn how to deliver practical PPE donning and doffing training as provided in Module II. Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a complete Training Support Package to use for delivery of the modules to their own audiences. Technical assistance will be available to support students in the use of the materials and ongoing delivery of the modules.

Learning Objectives:
By the conclusion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  • Complete the pre-assessment and state the purpose of the course
  • Summarize the content presented in the Module I material and recall best practices for successful delivery
  • Successfully complete the Module I written assessment with a grade of 80% or better
  • Summarize the content presented in Module II, describe the practical exercises, and recall best practices for successful delivery
  • Deliver a 5-minute lecture based on three slides assigned from Module I
  • Gain experience in PPE assembly, operation, donning and doffing by attending a practical workshop
  • Safely sanitize and stow training equipment
  • Describe the forms and rosters used in delivering Modules I&II
  • Summarize the course content

Accreditation:  
This program was designed to meet the requirements of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing, 244 CMR 5.00 for 14.4 contact hours of nursing continuing education.

The DelValle Institute for Emergency Preparedness is the Education & Training branch of the Office of Public Health Preparedness. In conjunction with Boston EMS, a bureau of the Boston Public Health Commission, the DelValle Institute provides high-quality all-hazards training and exercises to develop and enhance capabilities-based preparedness. This training delivery is offered through a contract with the Office of Preparedness and Emergency Management at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH), with funding from the Office of Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) Hospital Preparedness Program.
